HEOS App for Mac

Denon and Marantz do not make an official HEOS app for Mac. HEOS Surfer fills that gap — a lightweight macOS menu bar app that gives you full control of any HEOS-enabled device directly from your Mac, without picking up your phone.

The problem with controlling HEOS from a Mac

HEOS is Denon's multi-room audio platform, built into a wide range of Denon and Marantz speakers, AV receivers, and soundbars. It sounds great — but controlling it from a Mac has always meant one thing: grabbing your phone. Denon has never released a Mac app for HEOS.

If you spend long stretches at your Mac — designing, writing, coding — with music running through your HEOS system in the background, you know the friction. A track comes on that kills your focus. You reach for your phone, unlock it, find the app, find the right player, skip. By the time you're done, the moment is gone.

HEOS Surfer puts that control in your menu bar. One click. Skip the track, adjust the volume, switch the source — then get back to work. It connects directly to your HEOS device using the same network protocol as the official app. Start a session from your phone, and HEOS Surfer picks it up — play, pause, skip, volume, all from your Mac.

What HEOS Surfer does

HEOS Surfer is a native macOS menu bar app. It lives quietly in your menu bar until you need it — one click to open a compact player with full HEOS controls. No Dock icon, no full-screen window, no context switching.

It works with whatever is already playing. Start a session from your phone or the HEOS app, and HEOS Surfer picks it up — play, pause, skip, volume, all from your Mac without touching your phone again. It also gives you quick-launch access to your HEOS-supported streaming apps — Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music — so your music hub is always one click away.

Play, pause, skip

Full transport controls from the menu bar. Skip tracks, toggle shuffle and repeat — without touching your phone.

Volume control

Drag the slider or scroll your trackpad directly on the menu bar icon. Set a max volume ceiling to prevent accidental blasts.

Now Playing

Album art, track name, artist, and a live progress bar — all at a glance. No hunting through apps.

Internet radio

Search Radio Browser's directory of 30,000+ stations or paste any stream URL. Save favorites for one-tap playback.

Auto-duck on calls

HEOS Surfer monitors your mic. Volume fades down when a call starts, restores exactly when it ends.

Sleep timer

Set a 15, 30, 45, or 60-minute timer and the music stops when you do. Launch at Login so it's always ready.

Frequently asked questions

Which HEOS devices are supported?

Any Denon or Marantz device with HEOS built in — speakers, AV receivers, soundbars, and network amplifiers. If your device works with the HEOS app on iOS or Android, it works with HEOS Surfer.

What macOS version is required?

macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Can I control multiple HEOS devices?

The current version controls one HEOS device at a time. You can switch between discovered devices from the device picker inside the app.
